San Francisco, CA October 26, 2007 -- Top Global today congratulates its customer, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, on winning the 2007 3G A-List™ Award for its outstanding mobile broadband implementation. Hosted by Qualcomm, the 3G A-List Awards program recognizes innovative and successful enterprise wireless data solutions based on 3G CDMA standards (CDMA2000®/EV-DO and WCDMA/HSPA). At the fifth annual 3G A-List Awards, held during CTIA Wireless I.T.® & Entertainment 2007 in San Francisco, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office was honored as a winner in the Law Enforcement category for its rollout of Top Global's homeland security solution.
St. Lucie Sheriff's office was in need of a comprehensive, real-time identity verification solution to use as part of its daily law enforcement regimen. During traffic stops, for example, if people don't have any identification they may make up stories to convince the officer who they are. In the past, the officer had no way of verifying the person's true identity and sometimes fell prey to a good tale.
By installing the Top Global 3G routers into their police cars with a fingerprint scanner, St. Lucie Sheriff can avoid mistakes and rapidly identify criminals from anywhere at any time. Fingerprint scans are transmitted wirelessly through the gateway to headquarters, where they can be checked against a local database of over 100,000 sets of prints. If the database match is not who the perpetrator is claiming to be, the officer has cause for an arrest. Using a variety of reports generated from stored fingerprint and personal data, The Sheriff's Office can also audit the frequency of home-based visits in the case of sex offender parolees. The wirelessly connected scanners paid instant dividends for both traffic stop ID and predator verification. It also improves operational efficiency and minimizes the financial risks of lawsuits and legal fees.
"Using the latest and greatest technology to improve homeland security and public safety is one of the US Government's top priorities," said Dr. Alan Zhen Zhou, President & CTO of Top Global. "The combination of our MobileBridge with Qualcomm's 3G technologies enables multiple devices to communicate critical information in real-time. This is a true demonstration of utilizing innovative broadband wireless communications by the Sheriff's Office to better protect all citizens."
"Top Global & St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office have worked together to create an exceptionally innovative solution based on 3G CDMA technology," said William F. Davidson, senior vice president, global marketing and investor relations for Qualcomm. "By working with Top Global, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office has given its employees a fully mobile broadband communications solution that has dramatically enhanced their day-to-day operations. Qualcomm congratulates both companies."
